Wep Key Creator is a legacy freeware utility designed to generate valid 64-bit, 128-bit, or 256-bit hexadecimal encryption keys for wireless networks from a user-selected passphrase. While Wep Key Creator performs its job as programmed, Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is completely obsolete and fundamentally insecure. Introduced in 1997, the WEP protocol relies on a weak RC4 stream cipher implementation that easily leaks data packets. Modern hacking tools can intercept and crack a WEP key in a matter of seconds using automated cryptanalysis.
Because of these extreme vulnerabilities, WEP was officially retired by the Wi-Fi Alliance and replaced by vastly superior security standards:
